Emma-O was a Japanese Buddhist Ruler and Judge of the Dead. It's terrifying to think you could be met by this guy to judge your past life! My experiences with the Buddha's I've seen have always looked peaceful and even jolly, this was the first one that looked scary.
This looks scary. I understand that he is a judge and ruler but he looks like he ready for battle. It would be scary if he had to judge ones past life. I think that the ancient folk tellers wanted us to believe that these type of people where mean and brutal. I know that they had to be nice and happy sometime. If not their lives sucked.
