I was drawn to this piece of the exhibit because I've actually seen people wear this type of headdress and was interested in how it's worn. Here's an interesting video from youtube on how it's worn:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-dofe7eAMs&feature=related
The headdress displayed in the exhibit comes from Nigeria, from the Yoruba peoples.

Blog 4: DMA Visit - African Headwear beyond fashion: Royal Messenger's Headdress
This was my favorite piece of the this exhibit! The headdress is large and colorful. It comes from Cameroon, Bamileke peoples. Here's a link I found from a site that sells similar headresses: http://www.africadirect.com/productsdesc.php?ID=53950
Blog 3: DMA visit - African Headwear beyond Fashion: Master Hunter's Hat
The Master Hunter's hat came from the Malinke peoples of Mali. The description explained that part of the headdress was made from herbal medicine! I wonder why this was made this way. I wonder if the medicine was actually used.
Blog 2: DMA Visit- African Headwear Beyond Fashion exhibit: Headdress with monkey fur
This headdress was interesting to me because of the monkey fur. Next to the headdress there's a picture of the Colobus monkey the hair was likely made from. It's long, white and very course looking. The informational part of the display said the headdress likely came from the Acholi peoples. Because I wasn't able to take a picture I thought I'd share a picture I found online of a Colobus monkey.

Blog 1: Veronica's Cultural Studies
Hello, my name is Veronica Trillo-Garcia. I am taking this course because it is a requirement to transition to a University. I'm very excited about the course and really hope to gain better knowledge of other cultures. I work in real estate and often times work with many different people from an array of cultures so it would really be interesting to find out more about them and how and why they make the kinds of desions they make and most importantly to understand and have patience when working with them. I also want to travel to other countries so learning about their cultures is very important not to mention respectfull.
